1) In the UK, a building society deposit account with no fixed investment period that confers a share of ownership in the society. It entitles the holder to vote at shareholders' meetings and to an allocation of free shares if the society is demutualized.
2) In the USA, an account with a credit union (a non-profit making co-operative institution) that pays dividends rather than interest.
